Toy kitchens and shops were made in Europe as early as the 17th century. Created as educational toys to teach young girls housekeeping skills, the original toys were often hand carved. The toy industry in Nuremberg Germany expanded with the industrial revolution and with the opening of the toy museum in Nuremberg these domestic toys have become known as Nuremberg kitchens. They were painted in a various colours and filled with a variety of household accessories, or shop goods. The rooms themselves varied in size and accessories were often of different scales.
This kit is based on those early toys and can be decorated as a shop or kitchen and comes with printed floor, wall tiles and all the ¼ scale accessories shown.
